Radiation & Environment - Cost Analysis

NRG developed a Decommissioning Cost Planning System (DeCoPS). DeCoPS is a dedicated database system, build on a SQL server with a user-friendly interface.

Planning

The basis of the cost calculation is a (preliminary) decommissioning plan. The decommissioning project is divided in well-defined tasks and subtasks. Each task is set up of basic activities and basic cost items. Examples thereof are: environmental impact assessment, training of operators, foam cleaning of a square meter of surface, packaging of an amount of radioactive waste and measurement of a dose rate. Since the costs of the basic activities and cost items are known, the total cost can be extracted from the database.

Optimization

By comparing several options and procedures, we can optimise the project with regard to costs. For the optimisation of a decommissioning project not only costs are important. Additional input has to be obtained from e.g. dose optimisation for which other tools are available within NRG.
