Gamma detector for sorting (HIRARCHI)

Waste sorting is made possible by the HIRARCHI which is set up in a hot cell at the HCL. After the contents of a can are spread out on atable, they are scanned by a movable gamma scanner. The detector moves above the table. Areas on the table are marked using colours based on the radiation level. Using the scans, the HCL operators can sort the waste into different new cans.
